Sarah is an Australian Lawyer, Registered Trade Marks Attorney and the Founding Principal of Marquette IP. Sarah specialises in trade marks and brand protection for the creative sector. Her practice includes working across a range of contentious and non-contentious matters, including trade mark clearance searches, trade mark prosecution, portfolio management, Opposition proceedings, IP disputes and the leveraging of assets through IP commercialisation.
Sarah has a particular specialisation in international brand protection rights and works with a large number of international companies, including clothing retailers, industrial designers and Software App developers, on protecting and managing their IP in global markets. Her dealings with a number of high-profile international brands provide she is also experienced in anti-counterfeiting programs, customs proceedings and infringement detection training for Australian Customs & Border Control officials.
Uniquely, Sarah expands on the routine practice of IP law by providing consultancy to a number of advertising and creative branding agencies on the development of legally protectable brands for their clients, including clearance of proposed brands at the development stage. In collaborating with these agencies to deliver tailored advice around maximising the value of IP for their clients, Sarah draws on industry “know-how” gained from an additional 3 years’ experience working at a creative branding agency.
Sarah is also specialised in the areas of copyright, design registrations and advises businesses and “start-ups” on a variety of IP related licenses, contracts and agreements.
Sarah holds a double-degree Bachelor of Law/Bachelor of Criminology from Deakin University, a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from Australian National University and is currently completing a Masters of Intellectual Property at the University of Melbourne.
Andrew is Marquette IP’s patent and designs guru. As a consultant with Marquette IP, Andrew brings with him a wealth of knowledge in all aspects of the patenting process from drafting patent specifications, providing validity, infringement and freedom to operate advice and prosecuting patent applications in Australia and internationally.
Andrew has over fifteen years’ experience as a Registered Patent & Trade Marks Attorney (AU/NZ). Andrew has previously worked as a Senior Associate at one of Australia’s top-tier IP firms before engaging with his entrepreneurial spirit and founding his own business.
Andrew is a Fellow of the Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys of Australia (IPTA) and an active member of a number of professional bodies. This includes the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand (IPSANZ), the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA) and the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI).
Andrew has a BSc (Hons, Class I) in Science (Chemistry) and a PhD (Inorganic Chemistry) from the University of Sydney, as well as a Master of Industrial Property (MIP) from the University of Technology, Sydney, and a Diploma of Intellectual Property Practice (Dip IPP) from the Academy of the Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys of Australia.
Eugenia works on a variety of trade mark matters for local and international clients, including prosecution, opposition and portfolio management. Eugenia also specialises in copyright protection and registered designs.
Eugenia’s legal experience is far from linear. Commencing her career as a personal injuries lawyer, Eugenia then worked as an analyst in insurance matters at the Financial Ombudsman Service. Nevertheless intellectual property is where her true passion lies and being an avid artist, Eugenia understands creativity and the importance of its protection.
Eugenia holds a Bachelor of Law from Monash University, together with a Masters of Law (Intellectual Property).
Melissa specialises in a broad spectrum IP matters and works on a variety of trade mark, copyright and commercial law matters for local and international clients. Melissa’s trade mark expertise is particularly varied and includes advising on the strength and registrability of proposed brands, trade mark clearance search work, trade mark prosecution and contentious matters, including trade mark oppositions, cancellation proceedings and litigation.
Melissa also advises on a variety of IP related licenses, contracts and agreements. Having worked in the commercial transactional sphere for a number of years, Melissa brings with her a wealth of legal and business experience allowing her to devise strategically tailored commercial solutions for corporate clients and “start-ups” in a range of business issues, including growth and investment.
Melissa acts for clients within a variety of sectors, including hospitality, fashion and design, broadcasting and telecommunications, and internet, software and web design.
Melissa holds a double-degree Bachelor of Law/Bachelor of Arts from Deakin University, a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the College of Law and is an admitted Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria.
Elizabeth initially joined the Marquette IP team as an intern in early 2015. Having recently completed her Bachelors Degree of Laws at La Trobe University, she is now developing her IP skills by assisting on a variety of trademark and copyright matters. In 2016, she will be completing her Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice at College of Law in order to become an admitted Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria.
Elizabeth is creatively passionate about all things IP. She has studied both Australian and European Intellectual Property Law, drawing inspiration from her experiences living in Berlin and Budapest. Through her study of Business and Marketing at Berlin School of Economics and Law, Elizabeth has developed a valuable international perspective.
Bridget is the “Queen Bee” of organisation at Marquette IP. Bridget initially joined the Marquette IP team as an intern in 2015 and quickly proved herself to be indispensable to the practice. Bridget assists on a variety of trade mark, copyright and design matters, as well as overseeing file administration and client relationship management.
Bridget is currently completing her final year of a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws at Deakin University. In 2017 Bridget will join the Marquette IP team as a Law Graduate whilst also completing her Practical Legal Training to become an admitted Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria.
